Specialty Printing
- Embossing
- At Taylor Made, we offer two types of embossing. One is embossing
with a high quality metal tool and is used when especially fine detail
must be held. The other is embossing with a flexible plate and,
although special plates are required, the price is much less. Flexible
plate embossing has more limitations on the detail that can be held
and the depth of the emboss, but it can produce a very special effect
for the right graphics. Another option is embossing uv varnish, which
adds dimension and can make graphics look a lot like they have been
embossed. This requires an additional plate that we make in-house.
No tools or special plates are needed.
- Foil stamp
We offer a foil stamp option when a very special look or fine detail
is required. This "hot foil" process is available only on
our Gallus press, which can print up to eight additional colors. Foils
come in many shades and can be used to add sparkle to wine
labels or other high end products. Hot foil stamping requires special
tooling.
Alternatively, the Cold Foil stamp process requires a plate but no tooling. This technology has improved over the last few years and is perfect for certain applications.- Rotary screen
- A rotary screen is similar to silk screen except the screen is attached to a cylinder. This process creates some dimension because the ink can actually be felt on the surface of the label. It is often used to print white ink on top of full color art so type doesn’t have to be knocked out, for instance, or any time you want especially dense coverage.
- Specialty inks and varnishes
For creative minds there are many ink options available. From pastels
to metallics to special ink matches, we can accommodate. We can add
pearlescent powder to inks or varnishes for a different
effect. A spot matte varnish
on a glossy material can add interest. Or, use a high gloss varnish
to make something pop. Embossing uv varnish
adds dimension and can make graphics look a lot like they have been
embossed. Any of these only require additional plates and/or a possible
up-charge for the ink. No tools are needed.- Environmentally friendly papers and inks
- Taylor Made Labels now offers recycled papers and papers made from sustainable sources. Please talk with your customer service representative about options.
- Coupons
- Pull up coupons on products can be configured in various ways. A simple pull up or piggyback coupon leaves information on the product after you pull off the top layer. A multi-page foldout can give you more space for recipes or other copy and also leave behind important product information.
- Clear stocks
- For a "no label" effect, using a clear label can be very effective. For example, a clear label on a water bottle can look like a landscape is printed on the inside of the bottle, or a box can look like a logo has been printed on it.
Metallic stocks - Metallic stock is an alternative for customers who want a metallic look but don’t want to pay for special foil stamping tools. With the right graphics and often with the addition of white ink to make some areas less metallic, this process can create an effect similar to multiple foil stamps of different colors on one label.
- Tag stock
- Taylor Made prints on various types of tag stocks, both pressure sensitive and non-pressure sensitive. Thicknesses range from 8 pt. to a hefty 12 pt. Often a tool for scoring or perfing is incorporated into the set up for this type of printing. Also, for tags to go on products that will be displayed on hanging racks, various shapes of holes or “batwings” can be ordered as part of the die.
- Display case labels
- A label that will be applied to the inside of glass or clear acrylic and viewed from the outside requires backwards printing on clear stock.
- Adhesive side/liner printing
- There are various creative reasons for wanting to print on the adhesive side of a label. Sometimes it is just lack of room on the main label or sometimes the customer is looking for a special effect.
- Extended tab printing
- We can create an extended tab by printing a partial deadener on the adhesive to make it easy to pull up — to read the backside copy — and then reposition.
- Variable printing
- Our digital HP Indigo WS 4500 digital press can print variable information like upc codes or numbers that need to change from one label to the next. The customer provides a data file for the changing information in an Excel spreadsheet or as a tab- or comma-delimited text file. We can guide you in setting this up if needed.
- Indichrome
- This is a digital version of “process plus,” used to achieve a wider spectrum of colors. Orange and violet are added to the traditional process colors (cmyk) making it possible to match more spot colors on our HP Indigo digital press.
- Hexachrome
- We have the experience and the ability to print with hexachrome inks. This 6-color process (instead of 4-color) uses modified inks with the addition of hexachrome orange and hexachrome green. We can achieve an almost fluorescent quality with these hexachrome inks on our conventional flexo presses. (Several years ago, Taylor Made Labels printed an award-winning job using the hexachrome inks.)
